SUMMARY:Frofessionals Mission Trip to Nairobi\, Kenya
DESCRIPTION:  \nAccording to the Kenyan Ministry of Health\, around 1 in 4 people suffer from mental health conditions that include high levels of depression\, suicidal behavior\, mental distress\, and substance use.  However\, despite these high incidences of mental illness\, the report also showed that the country only had 116 psychiatrists\, 30 clinical psychologists\, and 500 mental health nurses at the time of the report to treat a population of 50 million.  As well\, the country’s mentally ill are often stigmatized as mentKenyakal health conditions are still associated with evil.  So\, these numbers are likely even higher due to under-reporting to avoid stigmatization.  \n \nThe Kenyan National Commission of Human Rights reported a higher estimation of people suffering from mental illness with numbers between 25-40% of the population.  A World Health Organization report from 2017 states that Kenya ranked #5 among African countries with elevated depression cases. \n \nFrofessionals is preparing for a one-week mental health mission trip to Nairobi Kenya beginning on October 10\, 2023\, to provide education\, referral services\, and crisis intervention to members of the community.  Donations to this mission will help to support travel arrangements\, pay local Swahili professional interpreters to help with the mission and arrange transportation for those in rural areas to access the services.
